Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down Day 3 & 4

Welcome back friends!

I am just going to say that I caved a little on day 3 and had 15 chocolate chips. 😦 But the good news is my eating was PERFECT on Day 4!

Day 3 Recap:

Okay, now that I have that weight off my shoulders, ever all everything went really well on day 3! I did miss my morning Booty Call workout, but I took a hour long Intermediate Pilates class, and walked my dog for 30 mins at night. This diet overhaul is making me begin to feel really good and light! I didn’t have any headaches at all, and didn’t feel too hungry throughout the day. I am definitely looking forward to making some Tone It Up approved banana bread and chocolate cake next week. I will probably be baking up a storm, and enjoying it moderately of course!

Day 4 Recap:

Today was almost perfect as far as my eating and exercise goes. If you are familiar with the Tone It Up Plan you will know that during the 7 Day Slim Down they ask us to do two 30min cardio sessions each day. This was tough work for me because I am not a morning person and really don’t like to work out in the mornings. I have found though that either walking or doing yoga in the morning is perfect for me! I am sure that once I get used to AM workouts I will be able to increase the intensity. My future hubby wants to get me a bike so we can ride around the lake together in the morning. Now that I am getting used to waking up earlier, and the weather is getting nicer, I can’t wait to get out there and ride with him. This morning I did 20 mins of yoga in the morning, and then did 30 mins on the treadmill at night, plus some ab work. I feel really great about my accomplishments.

Overall, I am feeling more motivated, more energized and more vital. I have been keeping up with housework more, and somehow find extra time to get things done. I have also lost 3 lbs so far (In 4 days!) and am down to 140lbs. My goal in the beginning was to break into the 130s by the end of this, and if I can stay strong and committed this weekend, I know I will meet my goal! How awesome is that?!


Reevaluating my goals and getting back on track. Part 2.

I realized I never posted the second half of my goals post from over a month ago! It’s really crazy how quickly time can pass, and how things can spiral out of control!

As of September 4th, I had 8 months to go until my wedding day. Because my wedding is a huge motivator for me to get in shape, I have decided to create an 8 month game-plan for myself. All of the workouts I am using are home workout DVD’s from Beachbody. (Note: I am not a beach body coach, I am not here to force anything on you or sell you products or anything). I have used the different Beachbody programs because I find that they work pretty well, and I can do them from home. Because I work full time and am in a Dance Company and am trying to get a Freelance Writing career going, I barely have time to make it to the gym, and I can’t afford it, which is why I choose to work out from home.

My current weight is 140lbs (I gained a few pounds since ending Insanity and starting P90X…I am hoping it’s muscle tone). Ultimately I would like to weigh 125lbs in the next 8 months. That is just 15lbs in 8 months. I am not trying to crash diet or lose weight quickly because I want to change my lifestyle, along with the lifestyle of my future husband. I have been cooking clean recently in an effort to make our bodies healthier on the inside, and help us shed some pounds on the outside. My favorite thing about eating Clean for the most part, is it’s easy. I made some Turkey Tacos the other night which took only about 15 mins! There is one blog in particular that I return to again and again to get recipes.

  • This site is amazing! I want to give a shout out to it’s writer and creator Tiffany! She is really inspirational and is helping me change my outlook on cooking and eating better.

Since I started P90X month 2 on Monday Sept 10th, I should be finishing up on November 4th. Once I finish P90X I am going to do 1 month of Brazil Butt Lift to tone up my lower body and sculpt it into what I envision it looking like. 😉 Once I finish that up, I plan to do a P90X/BBL/Insanity hybrid leading up to a few weeks before my wedding! My hopes is that in these next few months I build up muscle mass where I need it, and start to burn more calories and fat! Yay! Hopefully this helps motivate you to make your own weight loss or fitness goals!

Travel Bucketlist : My Own Backyard

One of the things that I have been obsessed with since visiting Costa Rica in 2011 is Traveling! I am lucky to have a job that sends me to different parts of Mexico a few times a year, but I have an itch that needs scratching! Financially at this point it’s not realistic for me to quit my job and take off around the world. It’s also not personally possible since I am planning my wedding to my best friend. The one area he and I don’t agree on is traveling for a long period of time. I would want to go somewhere for 6 months and try to survive buy working odd jobs etc. He plays life a lot more safe, and I think that is what makes us such a great pair. He understands my desire to travel, and would never stop me, but probably wouldn’t join me for an incredibly long period of time, and I couldn’t survive long without him. I still plan on seeing different parts of the world, but it will be over the course of time, and in smaller increments so that we can enjoy them together.

When I was thinking about traveling though, I thought about the fact that I haven’t seen much of my own backyard (the US). I began compiling a list of places I would love to see, so they are going on my Bucketlist. Here is the beginning of my US Travel Bucketlist!

There are so many beautiful places to go and see in my backyard. These places are much more attainable too because they could be a road trip! I am excited about traveling. Next year I am taking my Honeymoon in Cancun, MX because my future hubby has never been (and because of work we can stay for free in our resort there). But once I save up my second week of vacation, I think I want to take a road trip and try to see a few of these places!

Friday Favorite : Must Have App!

Today I am going to share 1 favorite item with you, because it will take me just a little while to gush about how much I am obsessed with it! It’s an App I downloaded for my iPhone, but it’s also available for Android, Kindle Fire and it has a web version too that you can access from your computer. The App I am referring to is Songza! **hyperlink to website**

Songza is like Pandora on crack. It puts Pandora to shame completely (sorry Pandora Fans, I was one too). First of all, Songza is completely free and…Ad FREE! Yay, no more annoying commercials every 3 songs (unless you pay Pandora). If that is not enough to make you jump up and down screaming, this next part will do just that. The best thing about Songza, is it has pre-made playlists that act as a soundtrack to your daily life. It automatically figures out what day of the week and time of day it is. For instance, when I logged into my App today, it said “Friday, Late Morning” because it was around 11am.

You will notice there are 6 options for styles of playlist. There is Summertime, Brand New Music, Still Waking Up, Popular Genres, Work or Study (with lyrics) and Easing the Tension. For today, I decided to go with a summertime playlist style, so let’s see what happens.

So now, we have 6 more options! I chose “Relaxing in the Shade” and was given 3 options for a playlist.

Isn’t this awesome! These playlists are Pre-made so you don’t even have to think about anything. With Pandora, you tend to get stuck listening to the exact same genre, and you notice that you hear the same songs over and over again. My Fiancé and I were on our way to the San Diego County Fair last weekend, and it suggested a playlist of Southern California Summer Hits. We listened to some Blink 182, 311, Slightly Stupid and Offspring. It took me right back to summer break in High School!

Songza also keeps track of the playlists you have listened too, so if it’s not suggesting exactly what you want to hear, you can go find those previously played lists. You can also explore lists by different categories such as Genre, Activities (Like Ballroom Dancing, Casual Dinner Party, Girls Night Out, and Hanging out in the Man Cave!), Moods, Decades, Culture, Record-store Clerk, and Just for You suggestions.

The creators of this App are genius, and I really encourage you to check it out! It’s so much fun! I am off to listen to the playlist called “Blogged 50” under the Getting Creative Activity! You all have a happy Friday!


Setting your Summertime Goals!

It felt like it would never come, but now it seems the spring has flown by doesn’t it? I suppose I don’t get quite as excited about the summer as I did when I was in High School because I work full time now so I still don’t have much time to enjoy the beautiful beaches in San Diego. But, it’s okay. At least the weather has been phenomenal lately! So since it’s the start of a new season, lets talk about goal setting today! :)I talked a little bit about my own SMART goals a few weeks ago, but I want to break them down a little bit for you!

“SMART” goals

SMART is an acronym for (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely).

S for Specific : There are 4 questions you should always try to answer when coming up with a specific goal for yourself.

  1. Who is involved? – this is pretty easy, because you’re involved. But if your goal involves others, think of them too.
  2. What do I want to accomplish? – lose 5 lbs? gain muscle tone? eat healthier?
  3. When? – Establish a time frame.
  4. Why? – Why are you setting this goal for yourself?

M for Measurable : Make sure you can measure your goals. If you want to lose weight, you can measure that by a scale. If you want to eat healthier, make sure you keep a food journal.

A for Achievable : Instead of expecting yourself to reach a goal of losing 50 lbs in a month, why not set more realistic goals like losing 8lbs in 2 months. By making your goals achievable, you will have more success, and be much more likely to continue on your path to reach your ultimate goal!

R for Realistic : This is a little different than setting an achievable goal. Being realistic means, if you have a goal to lose 8lbs in 2 months, what can you do realistically to reach that? Are you able to work out for 45 mins 4-5 days a week, and are you going to commit to eating healthier? Make a list of the action steps that you would need to take to reach your achievable goal, and figure out if that is realistic for you. This will take a little bit of thought and research, but trust me, you cannot reach a goal that you don’t map out a plan for. 🙂

T for Timely : Set a time frame for your goal. Let’s say you want to lose 20 lbs in the next 11 months. (Like me..hehe). Break it down into chunks. My first chunk was to lose 3 lbs in 1 month, and I did that my first month. My next goal is to lose 4 lbs more by July 1st. I am on my way. If my goal was just to lose 20 lbs in 11 months, and I didn’t break it up into chunks, it would be almost impossible to reach that goal without tackling smaller goals.

That’s all I have for you about Goal setting. I think the first day of Summer is the perfect time for you to set a quarterly goal for yourself! Let’s get cracking folks!

Oh, and I wanted to leave you with a picture of me and my Dance Company at a Beach Party event this past weekend celebrating Summer!! We were doing a Jazz dance in a Burlesque style so we decided to wear pin up inspired beach wear. We also had to dance in Sand…that was quite a workout. 🙂 Enjoy your first taste of summer! Keep pushing forward and don’t look back!

Hey All,

It has been a hectic couple of weeks and I have got out of the habit of doing my Insanity workouts every night after work. I am not too worried about it though, because Brad and I decided to start Month 2 week 2 over again from the beginning. I don’t want us to let ourselves off the hook and just move onto the next week until we have conquered this week! I am so determined to finish this program, no matter what my results are. I had such great results the first month, that it keeps me motivated no matter what is standing in my way. This is all part of life, and I am not going to beat myself up over it at all. I have still been eating very healthy regardless, and I have been packing myself food for the day. Here are what my meals look like for today :

Breakfast : Coconut Dream Protein Pancake (yum my favorite!) with Coconut “Whipped     cream” that I made out of nonfat greek yogurt!

Snack : A “Peanut Butter Cookie” Lara Bar (Just made out of Dates and Peanuts!)

Lunch : Grilled chicken that I seasoned with a spice rub, broccoli and a whole wheat tortilla

Snack : Carrots and Southwest Hummus (spicy, yay!)

Dinner : Probably the chicken again, we had a lot leftover from when we grilled them on Friday!

I have noticed that by packing my lunch and snacks for work, I am not tempted to go down to the coffee cart and get a cup of noodles or a pop tart! I have healthy options, and I am full all day! I haven’t had any really bad chocolate cravings either! I eat a sweet breakfast with my pancake, but it’s all natural ingredients and no sugar added! I am so excited for what the future holds!

If you are working towards a goal, just make sure you set a realistic time frame and allow for life to happen, and you will do great! Happy Monday all!

Stretching Excercises You Can Do At Your Desk!

If you’re like me…you have to work a typical 9-6 type job. I can’t complain too much because I absolutely LOVE what I do. I am a Social Media Specialist in the Travel and Hospitality Industries. The properties I work for are all over Mexico, so I have been able to travel down there on occasion! The only thing about working in Social Media, is that it requires me to be online and sitting at a desk all day. I have flexibility to work from home, and I will sometimes sit out on my patio or on the couch, but I still have to be “connected” at all time to my email. I have noticed that tension has been creeping up in my neck and shoulders and I feel stressed, even though I really am not stressed. I have recently started doing little stretches at my desk (nothing too crazy, you don’t want to look like a weirdo!) and I wanted to share with you a few of them! Happy stretching!

  1. Shoulder Rolls – This is definitely a stretching exercise that helps to relieve tension in the shoulders and around the shoulder blades. Inhale as you lift your shoulders up, and exhale as you roll them back and down. Repeat this one shoulder at a time, alternating sides for 5 reps each side.
  2. Wrist Stretch – I am typing all day long, so my wrists get a little stiff and sore after a while. What you want to do is reach your right arm straight in front of you, then with your left hand, clasp your right hand and pull your finger tips back towards you. To this pulling your fingers back up, and back down too so it stretches both sides of your wrist. Hold each stretch for 10-15 seconds, and then repeat on the other side. I would recommend doing this stretch twice a day or more.
  3. Neck Stretch – This is a great stretch when you start to feel compression in your neck and cervical spine. Sit up straight so your back is not touching the chair. Tilt your head to the right, so your right ear moves towards your right shoulder. Take your right hand and place it on the left ear, and gently use resistance to stretch all the muscles in your neck. Take deep breaths and hold for a few seconds, then repeat on the other side. I like to do this stretch 2-3 times a day. 🙂
  4. Spinal Twist – For me, this is like a mini chiropractic move, but to some they just like the stretching feeling. This usually cracks my back which releases a lot of tension for me. I am not recommending you try to crack your back if you are not comfortable with it or used to it, just take the stretch as deep as you can. Sitting straight with your back off the chair, twist your body to the right. Use both hands to grab your arm rest, take a deep breath in and as you exhale, use your arms to twist your torso more, then inhale and exhale and twist more. Repeat for a few seconds and then repeat on the other side. Again, I typically do this stretch twice a day.

Hopefully these few little stretches help you relax and ease a little bit of tension. It is hump day, so the week and the stress is almost more than half way over!
