Fall 2013 Wishlist!

4 Oct

Hello all!

It’s been quite a while since I have updated this blog, and I have been thinking of going in a new direction for quite some time. I still plan on posting fitness and nutrition related posts, but I have been wanting to do more posts related to fashion for quite some time now! I am not sure what the future of this blog holds, but if you are one of the few readers of this blog, let me know what you think of these types of posts and if you want to see more. I am considering doing outfit posts as well.

One thing I have noticed about a lot of fashion blogs, is they are written by girls who are tall and lean. Sometimes their advice doesn’t work properly on me because I am petite (5’2 1/2) and I am on the curvy side (I weigh 137lbs). I have put my measurements out there before but they have changed a little through my fitness journey, I am a 33″ bust, 27″ waist and 38″ hips. I wear a size 4 Curvy in Gap or a 6 regular. My hope is that I can provide fashion and style advice to us smaller ladies who need to be more aware of proportions etc. Okay, now on to my Fall Wishlist!

1. Chunky Over-sized Sweater – I am dreaming of a loose yet fitted chunky sweater to wear with leggings and boots this fall! I don’t want it to be so huge that it’s overwhelming, so it needs to be sort of fitted in the arm. This one is nice but I will be looking for more affordable options.

2. Aztec Cardigan – I have one from Express from 2 years ago, but the sleeves are not fitted. I am on the hunt for a thick warm one with regular cardigan style sleeves.

3. Sparkle Sweater – Who knew mixing jewels with a sweatshirt would be so chic but this looks amazing! You can be comfy, look stylish and skip the statement necklace!

4. Cozy Plaid – I would not pay $400 for a plaid shirt like this one, but I know there are more affordable options out there! I am on the hunt for the perfect red/navy plaid (think lumberjack!).

5. Coated Pants – Because I am curvier, I am not sure the faux leather legging trend will work for me, but these jeans give the illusion of being leather, and with the structure I think they will be much more flattering on my frame!

6. Toms Desert Wedges in Chestnut – Can you say perfection? I bought my first toms (Natural Crochet ones) for my wedding reception, and I LIVED in them all summer. I am sure I will still wear them in the fall but I can’t think of a more comfortable bootie than these. Trying to imagine all of the ways I can wear these this fall. The wedge adds a little height for my petite stature!

7. Gorgeous earrings – I can see these being worn with almost every fall outfit I can imaging. I feel like less is more this fall in the jewelry department, although a good statement necklace will be a must too.

8. Faux Leather Jacket – I have a real leather Oxblood leather jacket from last year. I would like to have a tailor shorten the sleeves on it though, and I am unsure how much that will cost and need to find a good tailor that won’t ruin my baby. I also want a faux leather moto jacket this fall for a little edge.

9. Boot Socks – YESSSS. That’s all I need to say.

Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down Day 2

27 Feb

Yesterday was Day 2 for me of the Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down!

I can’t believe I made it to Day 2 without giving up. I am so proud of myself. You have no idea how hard it is for me to give up sugar and starchy carbs, or maybe you do. 🙂 In the morning I took my little Luna for a walk that lasted about 20 mins and when we got back I made a delicious Slim Down Protein Pancake. This was much needed because it was sweet and savory (without added sugar) and so it helped with my sweet tooth. Plus, it makes a pretty big pancake so I didn’t feel like I was starving before my first snack!

Slim Down Protein Pancake

Throughout the day I did feel a little week and tired. I am thinking this is from cutting out any bad things that my body is used to relying on. The whole purpose of the 7 Day Slim Down is to reset your body, and help boost your metabolism. This Slim Down with help my body reset and use glyogen stores so my body will start burning fat once again.

Last night, I did another 30 mins of cardio to Brazil Butt Lift’s Cardio Axe, and then 15 mins of abs with Brazil Butt Lift Tummy Tuck. Before I started my workout I felt pretty hungry and tired, but afterwards I felt a bit recharged, and I felt much better the rest of the night. One thing I can say is that I have been sleeping more deeply these past few evenings, which is a nice change because last week I tossed and turned almost every night!

I have mentioned before, but I have been on this plateau for a few months where I am not losing any weight. I feel like I am building muscle tone, but my body is not getting rid of the fatty layer on top of my muscles. With my wedding only 66 days away, I really need to kick myself into high gear and stop making excuses for why I had those extra girl scout cookies or glass of wine.

As I am writing this, it’s about 1/2 way through Day 3, and I can’t wait to update you on everything that happens today!

Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down Day 1

26 Feb

Hey Everyone!

It’s been a minute since I wrote my last post. I find that I have all these idea’s for posts, and I begin to write them and I never get around to finishing it.

This week, I am committed to blog every day of my 7 day slim down journey!

Yesterday was Day 1 for me, and let me tell you…it was quite a challenge. Being that I am a sugar and carb-aholic it was very difficult for me to cut out both of these things. Luckily I was able to have some stevia and some fruit throughout the day, which made it a little easier.grapefruit-2

In the 7 day slim down plan, you do 30mins of cardio two times a day. This was tough for me yesterday because I am NOT a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. I used to work at 6:30am at my old job, but now I wake up around 8 and get to my office around 9am. So you can imagine how hard it is now for me to even get up at 7! But, I did it. I took Luna for a walk up and down some hills in my neighborhood and she LOVED it. I have been feeling so bad that I don’t walk her enough with working full time and all the wedding planning. Seeing how much she loved walking and sniffing everything, I know I need to keep up this routine.

Also, I had to put myself to bed a little early last night to prevent my late night Girl Scout cookie cravings! I did have some headaches throughout the day yesterday, and I think that was just my body going through some withdraws from carbs and sugar. I am hoping that at the end of this week, I will not have the crazy sugar cravings as much!

My starting weight for this week is 143 lbs. My goal would be to break into the 130s! I would do a happy dance for sure if I made it there. I have been stuck between 140 and 145 for at least 6 months. I am 20lbs heavier than I was in college, and even though I carry my weight well (mostly butt and thighs) I would like to get down to 125 again. I am only 5’3 and so 143 is “healthy” but at the high end.

My workouts lately have been consisting of a lot of strength training, so I believe I am losing fat and building muscle, but my muscle tone is not showing as it’s covered in a layer of fat. My hope is that this 7 Day Slim Down really helps me to break my plateau and reset my body to get in the best shape ever! My wedding is in 68 days, and I know I will not reach my goal by then, but I want to be much closer.

Has anyone else done or heard of the Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down?

5 tips to help you get fit for the wedding! (Or for anything)

23 Jan

Hey Everyone!

This post is a bit of a wedding update + some tips and tricks that have been helping me get in shape for my wedding. I want to start out by saying that I have not really lost any weight at all in the last 6 months. It’s definitely been frustrating because since November in particular, I have been working out at least 4 times a week and counting my calories (with cheats here and there). One thing I want to say is that the scale is NOT YOUR FRIEND. As a woman, it’s so hard to stay away from that thing because we are so conditioned to think that our weight determines how healthy/skinny we are.

My wedding is just over 3 months away, and my first fitting is in a month and a half, so I am sure you can imagine that I have been feeling like its crunch time at the gym. Finally Brad started going to the gym with me, and we have made Friday nights a Gym/Date night. We used to go out and eat and get beer, now we sweat it out at the gym together and then wind down with a movie. Although the scale has not moved, I tried my wedding dress on last weekend when I was shopping for accessories, and I felt even more beautiful than I did when I bought it.

Here are some of the changes that I have seen in my body:

  • My arms are a bit thinner and showing a tiny bit of definition. Still have work to do though.
  • My waist and the area around my ribs are significantly leaner!
  • My hips and butt are a little narrower. My slip was a bit tight on my hips but this time it zipped up with no problem!
  • My back fat is diminishing. YAY!
  • My breast bone and collar bones are starting to show. This is the biggest thing for me because it makes my chest look more lifted and what woman doesn’t love that!

I still have some time to get even more fit, but I am so happy with the progress. Now, I want to share with you my advice for getting into wedding day shape.

  • Count calories -to an extent. I was getting a little too crazy with my calorie counting and I think that MyFitnessPal was under calculating my calories. Now I am trying just to eat right but not feel bad about having an extra tbsp of hummus.
  • Lift weights – when I stopped focusing all on cardio and started lifting weights two things happened: 1. I didn’t hate going to the gym (I hate cardio) and 2. My body started looking different!
  • Get your man in on the action – My fiancé is going to school for a BA in Kinesiology option as a Fitness Specialist. He has a passion for fitness and he kind of fell off the bandwagon with me, so I think he has been having fun “personal training” me and coming up with a fitness regimen. We weight lift together and then I add in a bit of cardio and 2 days of Pilates too.
  • Share your goals with your friends and family – This is a way to stay on track because we all know people are going to pressure you to have seconds or have another beer. If you are upfront with your friends and family about wanting to eat healthier, they will support you and make it easier. My mom has even been going to the gym with me!
  • Don’t order your dress a size or two too small! – It was recommended to me to order my dress in a 10 but I ordered an 8. This worked out okay for me because the 8 fit my body as it was when I ordered it, and now that I have toned up I have the gratification of getting it taken in! The last thing you want is to get a dress too small and not make your weight loss goal and have that stress 6 weeks before your wedding when it doesn’t fit!

I hope my tips will help you reach your goals. Most of all, don’t stress too much. Your fiancé asked you to marry him just the way you are so believe that you are beautiful no matter what!

Do you have any tips for getting in shape for the wedding?

20 things I am thankful for! 2012 Edition.

27 Dec
My dancers from the Mesa College Spring 2012 Concert. Me in the middle. :)

My dancers from the Mesa College Spring 2012 Concert. Me in the middle. 🙂

The new year is almost upon us, and so today I thought I would take a moment and talk about 20 things that I am thankful for over the past year! While most people are making their goals for 2013, I thought it was important to reflect and thank the people who have made a difference in my life. This was also a challenge for the #elf4health challenge group on Twitter, so I thought it would be a perfect blog post. It’s helped to really get my brain working again, and I am going to make much more of an effort to contribute to my blog in 2013. That is one of my resolutions. In my next post, I will talk in more detail about my goals and hopes for 2013! There are many exciting things to come, mainly my wedding in May, so I am just looking forward to saying goodbye to all the great things that have happened in 2012 and move onto new adventures!

Here are the 20 things I am thankful for in 2012! (And in life).

  1. My determination – Recently I have been really determined to live a healthier life. Although over the holidays I have to admit I have not been the most healthy, but I am more conscious about what I am eating, and how I am treating my body. I am so proud of myself for asking for a gym bag, workout clothes and Pilates classes for Christmas!
  2. My fiance – Without him, I would definitely not be where I am today! He gave me the courage to pursue a new career which I am much happier at, and of course he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. 🙂 He has always been supportive of me.
  3. My family – My family has been growing now that I have Brad’s family too, and my best friend is having a baby! They have also all been very supportive and Brad’s family has welcomed me with open arms. I have to say it’s very nice to have in-laws you can get along with. 🙂
  4. Fitness – this is a big one for me. I used to be so active without even thinking about it, and then I got a desk job and gained weight. I learned I have to make fitness a part of my life, and I plan eventually to become a certified Pilates instructor and maybe personal trainer.
  5. Heath – I am so thankful to be overall healthy and to have a healthy family.
  6. Clean water – We as Americans don’t think much about the many blessings we have. Water is so important to life, and I am thankful that I can go and get water whenever I want.
  7. My job – I really do enjoy my job, I get to write and edit all day, and come up with all of our social media strategies. It also doesn’t hurt that I get to travel too!
  8. My travels – Even though it is tiring to travel for business, I am just thankful that I work someplace that gives me the opportunity to leave my desk set up every once in a while. I can’t complain much when I am editing on a balcony overlooking the ocean in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Even though I am working, I know I am blessed to have the opportunity.
  9. My manager – They know that I work hard everyday, and so they keep giving me more and more responsibilities. Now I am fully in charge of our 2 separate quarterly newsletters. Editor in chief if you will. 🙂 I have always wanted to be a writer, but dance always came first. Now I know I can make a living writing and still dance on the side. 🙂
  10. Dance – even though I am not currently taking classes because of work and wedding planning, I still dance everyday in my heart or when I hear a good song I begin to choreograph. It’s a great stress reliever.
  11. My pets – I don’t know what I would have done without my cat Beau. He helped me through a lot of hard times. Now my fiance and I have Luna that we adopted for Christmas last year. She is my little princess and she always makes me smile.
  12. My home – I am thankful that, even though we live in San Diego which is crazy expensive, Brad and I are able to have a nice little place of our own to call home for now. It’s an apartment but we will find a permanent home at some point.
  13. Bananas – If it weren’t for banana’s I wouldn’t eat very healthy haha. I put bananas in almost everything I make without sugar because it sweetens it up a lot!
  14. Twitter – I am so thankful for twitter and the community of other lifestyle and health bloggers out there. There are people that are much more active on their blogs than I am, and it inspires me to keep going. They provide me so much motivation especially the @blogilates and @toneitup communities. You can find me on Twitter @stephaniesaum although I will be changing that after I get married!
  15. Close friends – I am so thankful for all of my friends that have been there for me along the way. Getting engaged is extremely exciting and it’s nice to have support in the planning process.
  16. My legs – thank goodness I have them and they work. Otherwise dancing would be a challenge.
  17. Living in San Diego – I know I am lucky to live in “America’s finest city” and many people would kill to live here because of the weather, but there potentially may be a move in a few years to another city to see if we can survive there haha. I mean the cost of living here is outragous compared to our wages. If it wasn’t for Brad I would barely afford my 1 bedroom apartment on my full time salary. But I am thankful I am here now. 🙂
  18. Colored pens – They help me keep my life so organized. I color code every little event. 🙂
  19. My planner – Same thing as the pens. I would go crazy without it, because with all of this wedding stuff going on, my head feels like it’s about to pop off.
  20. Anyone who reads my blog. – It really means a lot to me that anyone would take the time to read what I have to say, so thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I hope I entertain you at least in some way.

Okay, it took me all day to finish writing this post. My problem is I keep starting these really great posts, and never finish them because I have so many things going on in my world at the moment. I think I will be extremely glad when wedding planning is over because even though it seems glamorous, its very stressful when you don’t have a wedding planner and you are doing it all on your own!

What things are you most thankful for?

Quick Goals Update.

6 Aug

So I realized that I never came back and posted my goals! Agh! This is going to be super short and simple. I really have been swamped with the extra work load I have taken on, not to mention, my wedding planning.

Goal #1 : ReStart P90X. My future hubby and I are getting our weights back out tonight. And going grocery shopping for healthy food!

Goal #2: By April 2013, I would like to have lost another 15 lbs. 🙂
Sorry these are general. I had them written out more specifically, but now can’t find that paper! I feel so disorganized! 🙂

Reevaluating my Goals and getting back on track. Part 1.

1 Aug

This post is not going to be the most positive one. It’s been a tough route since I stopped Insanity. I have been trying to start P90X without success. I will do it for a day or few days, then stop for a week. I still have 9 months to reach my coals, and only about 20 lbs to lose, so I know I can do it! It’s just a matter of finding the motivation to either get up really early and workout before work, or find time in the evenings (which keep getting filled up with events and activities).

I really have to dig deep within, and find the motivation and accountability.

This is going to be a 2 part post. Later this afternoon, I am going to reset my goals, and write them in a blog post, so that I can be held more accountable.

To top this all off, my coworker quit, and I have been flooded with extra workload from her. My job title even was changed from Social Media Specialist to Social Media & Communications Specialist. The worst part about this is that my coworker never explained how to do portions of her job before she left, and my boss has been dealing with a lot of personal issues, so I have kind of been left to fend for myself. I know I am up for the task, but it’s just a lot to handle all at once, while still trying to plan my wedding and find time to get in shape.

I hope this post is not discouraging to anyone! I am not saying I give up, just that this last month or so has been pretty tough for me. I think that once I can reevaluate my goals, I will get back on track! Thanks for sticking in there!
What do you do to keep yourself motivated?
