Tone It Up 7 Day Slim Down Day 3 & 4

Welcome back friends!

I am just going to say that I caved a little on day 3 and had 15 chocolate chips. 😦 But the good news is my eating was PERFECT on Day 4!

Day 3 Recap:

Okay, now that I have that weight off my shoulders, ever all everything went really well on day 3! I did miss my morning Booty Call workout, but I took a hour long Intermediate Pilates class, and walked my dog for 30 mins at night. This diet overhaul is making me begin to feel really good and light! I didn’t have any headaches at all, and didn’t feel too hungry throughout the day. I am definitely looking forward to making some Tone It Up approved banana bread and chocolate cake next week. I will probably be baking up a storm, and enjoying it moderately of course!

Day 4 Recap:

Today was almost perfect as far as my eating and exercise goes. If you are familiar with the Tone It Up Plan you will know that during the 7 Day Slim Down they ask us to do two 30min cardio sessions each day. This was tough work for me because I am not a morning person and really don’t like to work out in the mornings. I have found though that either walking or doing yoga in the morning is perfect for me! I am sure that once I get used to AM workouts I will be able to increase the intensity. My future hubby wants to get me a bike so we can ride around the lake together in the morning. Now that I am getting used to waking up earlier, and the weather is getting nicer, I can’t wait to get out there and ride with him. This morning I did 20 mins of yoga in the morning, and then did 30 mins on the treadmill at night, plus some ab work. I feel really great about my accomplishments.

Overall, I am feeling more motivated, more energized and more vital. I have been keeping up with housework more, and somehow find extra time to get things done. I have also lost 3 lbs so far (In 4 days!) and am down to 140lbs. My goal in the beginning was to break into the 130s by the end of this, and if I can stay strong and committed this weekend, I know I will meet my goal! How awesome is that?!


Recipe I am Loving: Banana Pancakes!

Hi All!

I don’t know about you, but now that I am eating cleaner, I find myself gravitating towards banana’s because they are a natural way of adding sweetness to relatively anything. You can make a protein smoothie with banana, add it to oatmeal, and just eat it by itself. My current favorite way of using it, is making the Banana Pancakes that Blogilates describes on her blog. If you don’t know who Blogilates is, I will get more into the details of that further into the post. But first…

  • 1 banana
  • 2 eggs

No really…that’s it! Mash the banana in a bowl, whip the eggs in there (including the yolk) and pour it in a pan. I find it easiest to make 6-8 smaller pancakes with this batter rather than one big one, but I shared this recipe with my mom, and she makes one big one. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I have a recipe that is so easy to make in the morning! And it’s sweet. I tried it with maple once, and it was a little strange but its sweet enough on it’s own.

Blogilates also did a food of the year round up for 2012, and these little babies won!

So, I wanted to share a little about Blogilates. The creator is Cassey Ho, and she is a fitness instructor that recently moved to LA. She started posting Pilates videos on YouTube because her students requested it, then it grew so much in popularity! Now she creates her own monthly workout calendar, shares recipes and posts new YouTube videos weekly. She has really inspired me on days that I don’t feel like going to the gym, I love working out to her videos which are fun and infections (much more entertaining than P90X!). Goals for 2013!

2013-GoalsHappy 2013 Everyone! Last week I posted about the 20 things I am most thankful for in 2012, so I thought I would follow up today with my goals for 2013. I am not making any “resolutions” because I feel like resolutions set you up for failure. The definition for the “resolution” I am referring to is:

New Years Resolution : a resolve or determination, to make a firm resolution to do something.

The problem I see with this is that we are not perfect. When people make new years resolutions, and after a few weeks they “fail” at reaching their resolve, they usually give up with the excuse of starting again next year. There is no reason you have to wait until NEXT YEAR to accomplish something you wanted to THIS YEAR! Does that make any sense? Now lets look at the definition of a goal.

Goal : the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end.
This sounds much better to me, and less stressful. You have to allow yourself some wiggle room to achieve your goals, otherwise anytime you slip up, you will allow yourself to continue to slip up because you already failed at your resolution. I like goals because even if I slip up one day, I can dust myself off and get back to it, without stressing too much about getting off track. So, without further ado here are my goals for 2013!
  1. Run a 5k. This is a big deal for me because I am not a runner. I have never enjoyed it, and I still don’t but I want to challenge myself to do something this year that I normally wouldn’t.
  2. Participate in a mud run. This is also a 5K, and I am not so much concerned about running the whole thing as I am excited about the experience and trying this with some of my girlfriends. It’s coming up soon in San Diego, it’s the Dirty Girl Mud Run. Check it out in a city near you!
  3. Save $$ towards becoming a certified Pilates instructor. The instructor course I want to take costs $4,000. The reason it’s so much is its a Pilates Apparatus training course, so it encompasses all of the Pilates equipment. By having this particular certification, I will be more desirable to different studios and would be able to find teaching work more easily. I would love to do the certification this year, but with the wedding, I don’t think I will be able to come up with this money right away.
  4. Get my real estate license. I took the test a year ago and never paid for the license. I have to pay for the license this year otherwise all the work I did to pass the test and all the classes I took will be useless. I don’t plan on selling real estate, at least not at this point, but it would be silly not to get my license now which will cost me about $250.
  5. Lose the last 15 pounds. I am putting this down because it’s more of a finite goal, but really I would be happy just getting more toned. I feel like I will lose pounds of fat, but replace it with muscle, so if I do not reach this pound goal, I will not be too crushed. I want to look fantastic in my wedding dress, and most important I want to feel fantastic!
  6. Improve my weightlifting skills. I would like to be able to curl 20lbs on each arm by the end of the year, do at least 2 pull ups and squat 200lbs. I want to be able to see muscle tone.
  7. Drink more H2O. My goal this year is to drink 100 ounces of water every day!
  8. Read more! I want to read one new book every month. 12 books by the end of the year. Currently I am ready 50 shades of Grey. Next on my list is Safe Haven (My fiance bought me this book for Christmas).

I am sure there are more goals that I have, and I may revise this post later on down the road, but for now these will be keeping me very busy!! Have you set any goals for yourself for 2013? Comment below and share!

Reevaluating my goals and getting back on track. Part 2.

I realized I never posted the second half of my goals post from over a month ago! It’s really crazy how quickly time can pass, and how things can spiral out of control!

As of September 4th, I had 8 months to go until my wedding day. Because my wedding is a huge motivator for me to get in shape, I have decided to create an 8 month game-plan for myself. All of the workouts I am using are home workout DVD’s from Beachbody. (Note: I am not a beach body coach, I am not here to force anything on you or sell you products or anything). I have used the different Beachbody programs because I find that they work pretty well, and I can do them from home. Because I work full time and am in a Dance Company and am trying to get a Freelance Writing career going, I barely have time to make it to the gym, and I can’t afford it, which is why I choose to work out from home.

My current weight is 140lbs (I gained a few pounds since ending Insanity and starting P90X…I am hoping it’s muscle tone). Ultimately I would like to weigh 125lbs in the next 8 months. That is just 15lbs in 8 months. I am not trying to crash diet or lose weight quickly because I want to change my lifestyle, along with the lifestyle of my future husband. I have been cooking clean recently in an effort to make our bodies healthier on the inside, and help us shed some pounds on the outside. My favorite thing about eating Clean for the most part, is it’s easy. I made some Turkey Tacos the other night which took only about 15 mins! There is one blog in particular that I return to again and again to get recipes.

  • This site is amazing! I want to give a shout out to it’s writer and creator Tiffany! She is really inspirational and is helping me change my outlook on cooking and eating better.

Since I started P90X month 2 on Monday Sept 10th, I should be finishing up on November 4th. Once I finish P90X I am going to do 1 month of Brazil Butt Lift to tone up my lower body and sculpt it into what I envision it looking like. 😉 Once I finish that up, I plan to do a P90X/BBL/Insanity hybrid leading up to a few weeks before my wedding! My hopes is that in these next few months I build up muscle mass where I need it, and start to burn more calories and fat! Yay! Hopefully this helps motivate you to make your own weight loss or fitness goals!

P90X Month 2 : Feels good!

I have to preface this post by saying that I will not be posting before and after month 1 pictures, because month 1 took me about 2 months to complete, and even then I didn’t stick with it consistently. I decided to move onto month two because even if I am not perfectly following the program, I know that I will still see results. This is pretty much the first time in my life that I have lifted weights for a consistent period of time and I am so proud of the progress I have made so far!

I feel muscles forming in my arms, chest shoulders and thighs, and I am really excited to see what will happen this month. I know I may not finish month 2 perfectly, but I have made a commitment to myself to try to stick with it as much as possible. To really push myself. Yesterday for example, I took a long lunch and went home and did the first workout for this month (Chest/Shoulders and Arms…and Ab Ripper X). I could not even finish the first workout, I made it with about 10 mins to spare but I was pushing my muscles to where they literally couldn’t do anymore. One armed pushups??? Not even on my knees, ha! And those fast and slow motion pushups really did a number on me. The result? Noodle arms today. It’s literally a struggle to type this blog post up. 🙂

I have my engagement photo shoot coming up at the end of this month, and I am not expecting miracles but I would like to feel tight when that shoot happens (even if others can’t tell my muscles are getting tighter). Another thing that I discovered I enjoy is Hiking. Last week, a girlfriend of mine from high school and I hiked up Cowles Mountain, which is a local hike here in San Diego. It’s 1.5 miles to the top and a 950 foot change in elevation. It’s definitely not an easy hike, so I was super happy with the fact that I made it to the top!!! The elevation is 1,593 and is the highest point in San Diego with 360 degree panoramic views of my beautiful city. I have lived within a few miles of Cowles Mountain for a few years and am very surprised that I have never attempted this hike before.

I feel really accomplished because I know that 6 months ago, there is no way I would have ever made it to the top of this mountain. My friend and I plan to hike every weekend now, and I think it will be so great for us. We are going to Cowles again, but there are multiple tails around Cowles that we can try as well. Looking forward to updating you all after my next adventure!

Who is doing P90X right now?

P90X Update. Half way through week 2!

FINALLY I made it through a week of P90X! Granted, it was not a perfect week, I got through 4 out of the 6 workouts, but YAY! I am so proud of myself. I am not a perfect example of fitness, but I work hard, and I feel like I am the same as a lot of people out there. It’s really hard to start a workout regimen, let alone stick to it.

My life has been so hectic between working a full time job, my dance company, planning a wedding, and trying to make time for friends and family. I honestly feel a bit rundown. I am thinking that something has got to give, but I am not sure what that is. Should people make sacrifices with some of the activities they do daily, in order to be in a better state of mind? Have you ever given something up, to gain more of something else? I feel like if I take on one more responsibility, I will become unhappy, but most of this I do because I love it. I would love if I didn’t have to work full time, but unfortunately this is something that I cannot give up at this point in my life. I rehearse and perform with my dance company because it is who I am. I would not be myself without dance. The wedding planning is a given, I cannot afford to hire a coordinator so I have to do it myself, then on top of that, trying to squeeze in time for my family, friends and myself.

P90X has fallen by the wayside because of this, but I have decided that P90X is my ME time because it’s going to help me get my body to the place I want it to be. Making me a priority is very difficult because I want to make everyone else around me happy. My suggestion to anyone out there is to put you first. Even though I have been very busy now that I have FINALLY started P90X, I feel happier because I am making time for myself (and my fiancé).

I want to talk a bit about my P90X likes and dislikes so far, because there are a lot of P90X lovers, and a lot of haters. This is just my own opinion, so don’t look too deeply into it, but it’s something to think about. I really dislike the yoga workout. This could be because I have instructed beginning level yoga before, but this is the most repetitive and boring yoga DVD I have ever used (and long…90 mins!). I think what I am going to do, is use Kenpo X in place of Yoga on Thursdays, and then do yoga on Saturdays using a different DVD like Shiva Rae or taking a yoga class at the studio near my house.

Another dislike is the Plyo workout. I think I will be substituting this workout with one of the Insanity workouts because even the lower intensity workouts from Insanity, are more intense than the P90X plyo. Again, this is a personal preference. I am going to try to keep doing the plyo but it’s so slow paced its killing me.

One thing that I love about P90X though, is the weightlifting. Who would have known that I would love to lift weights and flex my (no so big) muscles? I actually enjoy this type of workout early in the mornings much better than cardio. I think my plan of attack is to do the weightlifting in the AM, and the days I have cardio, do it in the evening. I will continue to keep you updated on my progress and hold myself accountable to get into wedding dress shape! Until next time my friends!

Wedding Checklist : Planning Progress Report ;)

Thanks for hanging in there with me everyone! It’s been a tough few weeks, trying to find time to keep up my blog, and to work out for that matter! A lot has been happening with the wedding planning, but I will get to more of that later!

My fiancé and I are getting back on the P90X bandwagon first thing Monday morning. I really have to stop making excuses for not waking up and just doing it. I have always been a night owl so I find it hard to go to sleep early, and then wake up early. I don’t have to work until 9, but my fiancé has to leave at 7am for work, meaning we are working out at 6am or before! Ahhh!

Wedding Checklist

We have made a commitment to each other to really see this through {plus, I want to look exquisite on our wedding day!}
Here are the things we have been able to accomplish from our own wedding checklist so far:

  • Down payment on the venue is paid
  • Wedding dress is chosen and almost paid off. {can’t show pix because my fiancé reads my blog, sorry!}
  • Bridesmaid dresses chosen and ordered.
  • Overall theme of wedding has been decided. We are going for a laid back old fashioned {western} wedding, with touches of vintage glam.
  • Color scheme selected. Yellow, orange, brown, forest green and Tiffany blue. Basically the colors of a sunflower and the sky above.
  • Primary flower = sunflower. Duh!
  • We have been in conversation with a graphic designer about our stationary. He is a great friend of mine, and is very talented. Check him out! We are a little ahead of the game on this, but I figured why not, since I have a friend working on it. 
  • Bridal party has been selected.
  • Photographer has been selected. We are meeting with her next week!

Our next big task is to decide exactly that we are going to be doing for food. We are having 85 people at our wedding, and we have a tight budget. We are thinking of having make your own sandwiches. This way we feed people, but it’s not too expensive.
